Feather and down are used not only as a filling of bedding, but also in jackets and other clothing items, especially for winter. Still, our company profile is pillow and quilt production, so let’s have a look at these a little bit more into details.
Pillow
Functionality makes the difference between pillows. While decorative cushions of different shapes, sizes and textures are determined to add to our comfort by their appearance, pillows used for sleeping are the key to our well-being, and – to be mentioned-, they have an important role in health preservation.
It is easy to note that in case of the former mentioned category, we can find a huge variety of decorative pillows only limited by the imagination, due to the wide range of fillings, fabrics, also the endless options of shapes and colors. On the other hand, pillows produced for sleeping are the result of serious research and tests in case of every new product development. The production of pillows – as well as the production of quilts- is guided according to international standards, and the different phases of production are followed by quality control at every level; this is the only way we can guarantee that the products fulfill all technical criteria, distributor’s expectations and customer’s requirements as well.
Sleeping Pillows:
We control the softness of sleeping pillows by the percentage of down content in the filling and by the quantity of filling material. The higher quantity of feather the mixture of the filling has, the harder the pillow is. It was an important step in the innovation of pillows, when multi-chamber pillows appeared; these may contribute in great extent to a comfortable feeling during the sleep.
Two Chamber Pillow:
In the two-chamber type there are two fillings of different physical characteristics, this gives a new functionality to the product. These pillows can be turned over: on one side there is 100% feather filling, which is cooler, so more suitable for summer use- on the other side of the pillow, the filling consists of 50% down and 50% feather, which is warmer, so more comfortable for winter, also gives more support to the head because of the filling power of the down.
Three Chamber Pillows:
Our three-chamber, premium pillows represent luxury on our scale of products.The 3 chambers provide the same function as the two-chamber version– summer and winter side- but the inner middle chamber increases the comfort of support for the user.
Decorative Pillows:
The decorative pillows made in our factory at Mezőkovácsháza are produced with white cotton fabric – free of optical whitener-, and typically with 100% feather filling. The fancy cover is exchangeable- the pattern, fabric and shape of the cushion- no matter whether it is square, triangle, round, rectangle or any other shape- are designed and adjusted to the production process according to the clients’ needs.
Duvet
The other significant product group of our company consists of feather and down quilts, produced with several types of filling and grade of comfort in our factory at Mezőkovácsháza. Just like in case of the pillows, also in case of the quilts it is very important to choose adequate shell fabric. In case of Hungária Down Co. Ltd. this might be cotton, silk or satin (fabrics that are not down-proof are complemented with additional inner fabric), which we elaborate in different color and comfort versions according to the distributors’ and customers’ needs. As well as the fabrics, we also adjust the quality of the filling to our clients’ needs: the quality ordered may vary on a wide scale, starting from 50-50% feather and down to 100% down content. Breathability, wet absorption capacity and temperature conservation are much more important physical characteristics in case of the quilts than in case of the pillows. Among our company’s products you may find summer quilts, winter quilts, but so called four-season quilt types as well. We distinguish 5-5 different grades of warmness in case if the summer and winter versions.
Four Season Duvets:
Four-season quilts are the combination of summer and winter quilts that can be varied by the costumer freely. The two different types can be attached or separated according to the customer’s needs and the conditions of temperature. Just like in case of the pillows, during the production of quilts we may also combine different functionalities To achieve the desired effect we use zone-technology, that is to say we use different mixture of down- of different quality and quantity- to fill the different chambers of the quilt. With this solution we can enhance the physical characteristics of filling materials, so we can control the warming and cooling capacity of the quilt.
Winter and Spring-Autumn Duvets:
Unlike the summer ones, here we can adapt to the warmth requested by our customers not only by the quantity of the filling, but also by varying the inner wall height, which can reach up to 7 centimeters. The use of the inner wall is realized in that the top and the bottom cotton fabric is joined together with the help of an internal strip,or wall. This internal wall gives the squares the opportunity to fill more filling into them, so the quilt becomes much warmer. The wall can be used not only on the inner walls, but also on the outer walls of the quilt. This element is called a gusset in technical terms, and in terms of its function, it again serves to fit more filling into the quilts.
Summer Duvets:
The majority of summer quilts are made in a stitched throught design. This design is reflected in the quilt’s properties in that the top and bottom cotton fabrics are sewn directly to each other when forming the squares. Typically, the squares of stiched through duvets are smaller, so the amount of filling is small, which is well suited to summer weather.
Topper
In order to increase the sleeping comfort, not only the duvet can help us, but we can also cover our existing mattress with a topper filled with down. The layer filled with small down and feathers is a great complement to the mattress of the bed. In terms of its properties, the topper is 5-8 cm thick, its size is made according to the needs of our customers. We can make a topper for any mattress size available on the market. There is a strong rubber band on the bottom of the topper, in the four corners, which ensures that the topper fits well to the mattress and does not move during use. The topper is also made of 100% cotton material, but here we must take into account that due to its use, finely woven fabrics should be avoided. Using a topper not only has a positive effect on our own feeling of comfort, but also increases the lifespan of our existing mattress.
Guidance of care
The care of natural-filled bedding is different from that of synthetic filling. Airing is one of the best ways to refresh the bedding and allow the down inside to regain its shape.
However, for down and feather-filled bedding, the lowest temperature should be selected in the washing machine. The detergent used during washing should be gentle and fabric softener should not be used. Strong detergents can damage the down filling. When washing, select a low spin speed to avoid damaging the down filling.
Before drying, it is important that the duvet is rinsed well with clean water so that detergent residues do not stick to the down filling and cotton fabric.
We recommend two methods for drying: natural drying, when the washed bedding is left to dry in the open air. In this case, the down may clump together, but this can be corrected by shaking the duvet and moving it manually. Natural drying is a time-consuming process, so we must make sure that all parts of our bedding are completely dry.
The second drying method is recommended in the dryer. In this case, we must also pay attention to choosing a low temperature for drying. High temperatures can damage the elasticity of the down filling.
Design elements and Emboridery:
We can customize pillows, duvets or even toppers to customer needs from the beginning to the end of the production process. Different design elements are a remarkable parts of brands, so we try to realize our customers’ dreams as perfectly as possible.
By using piping, we give the bedding a special look, which always distinguishes them from their not piped counterparts. Since in most cases the products are made of white cotton fabric, a colored piping makes the product unique and highlights them as well.
The option of embroidery is also available in our factory. The high-quality machine embroidery on a bedding serves as a real crown jewel. In addition, the countless graphic designs, the logos of the brands also appear on the bedding by embroidery. In this case, the standard corner label is replaced by a logo embroidered with thread, which elevates the bedding to a luxury product category. The product becomes extremely elegant and unique if the color of the piping and the embroidery is matching.
